The Holidays

Every year the Holidays sneak up on me.  I start to get overwhelmed with what I must do to promote the Gifts in the Spa, decorating the Spa and my home, and finding gifts for loved ones etc.  Some years I feel I spend the whole time thinking about what I could have done better, or what I forgot to do, as opposed to enjoying the moment.  This year I am taking the approach that the true gift of the season is the opportunity to ENJOY others and to make sure others feel JOY.  I have noticed a lot of our clients and friends are really feeling an extra burden and stress this year.  I wish I knew how to take it all away, but I only know how to do what I do.  And that is to offer a very nurturing and relaxing atmosphere in the Spa. We are here for you to enjoy yourself, feel pampered, receive some pain relief or to make you feel better about the way you look.  Remember today "You cannot make anyone love you, you can only allow yourself to be loved." And you must "Learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness".

I welcome you to stop in at the Spa to chat, have a nice hot latte, and maybe we can work together to get that perfect gift for the one you are looking for.  In the meantime love yourself and allow others to love you.  And don't forget about the Gift someone wants to get you!  We have a WISH LIST you can sign up for, and we will contact your loved one to let them know how easy it is for them, to get you what you want this year.  You deserve it!

Happy Holidays from your family at Canyon River Spa.

Fall's Hot Hair Color Trends

September is one of my favorite months in Bozeman.  With it's super sunny days, warm evenings and cool mornings, it makes you forget about the winters...almost.  I thought I would post a few of the seasons fashion trends in hair color to inspire you to update or show off your beauty.  First off let me remind you all that during any season one of the most important beauty boosting tips is to increase your consumption of water.  Being well hydrated helps clear your skin (toxins are eliminated better), make your hair more shiny (hair is an extension of your body), and improves your overall sense of well being with the reduction of pain (it lubricates joints and improves muscle function.)  Enough of my health reminders for now.  On to the season's hot trends!  For hair colors rich browns, deep reds, bold color, and warm honey blonde hues are extremely popular especially in winter.  Metallic looking shiny highlights and 2-4 shades of low light color are trendy now, adding a perception of more depth than all over color.  Probably one of the most surprising colors that we are seeing is gray. Believe it or not, women are seeing this once dreaded shade through a whole new set of eyes with gray lights and white/gray bases being sought. These colors have become very popular with trendsetters and models and  is beginning to trickle down to the you and I, the average person.  Pop singer Pink and model Kate Moss are just two of the many women that are trying out this new look and loving it.  Several celebrities have come out strong and proud about their gray colored hair including Lady Gaga and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The word for any season is change. So whichever color you want to go for, just go for it!  Change it and have fun!

The power of Aromatherapy

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their exquisite aromas and natural healing powers. Rich in botanical activity and antioxidants, plant oils encourage radiant, healthy skin, working at a cellular level to keep the complexion soft and looking youthful. By harnessing their therapeutic properties, aromatherapy works to improve our physical, mental and emotional well being.

THE PHYSICAL BENEFITS
Essential oils are made up of very small molecules, which means they can easily bring their unique healing properties to every cell of the body. They are traditionally used to help ease muscular aches and pains, improve circulation and ease sinus congestion. They also have a positive effect on the skin, penetrating into the deeper layers to encourage the process of cellular renewal, enhance blood circulation and help problems such as acne, eczema and aging skin.

THE EMOTIONAL BENEFITS
Linked to the areas of the brain governing instinct, memory and emotion, our sense of smell is the most primitive of our senses. Through the pathways between smell and the deep centres of the brain, essential oils can have a dynamic effect on our emotional state. They can help transform our moods and move us from one state of mind to another.

We are introducing 3 new services using Aromatherapy Associates' powerful essential oil based skincare and massage oil blends.  This is a quote directly from the founders of the AA company. "We are proud to trace a direct line back to the very beginnings of modern aromatherapy. Our studies began in the 1970s when Geraldine and Sue both trained under Micheline Arcier, student of aromatherapy founders Marguerite Maury, an Austrian biochemist and skincare pioneer, and Jean Valnet M.D., an expert in the science of essential oils. This association with aromatherapy’s earliest practitioners has provided an ongoing link to the traditional principles of aromatherapy and the benefits essential oils bring when applied in the right way."

Spring Time in Bozeman

Spring will be happening in Bozeman any day now.  Spring cleaning is a common occurance with your house, why wouldn't you do the same for yourself?  This time of year everyone could use a pick me up! Some great services to help reveal the fresher, smoother and reinvigorated you are found in our Waterfall treatments.  The Waterfall treatments occur in our Vichy shower room.  We are the only Spa in Bozeman to have this treatment room.  There is a picture of it on our website under the category "Waterfall treatments".  The body scrubs begin with a dry brushing technique.  The boar bristle brush removes dead skin cells, and stimulates your lymphatic drainage system.  Your lymph is the gateway to your immune system so this helps detoxify and boost your immunity.  We have 4 different types of body scrubs with different methods of exfoliation (salt, sugar, and olive pit) depending on skin sensitivity and personal preference of scent.  The scrub is applied with firm and vigorous circular motions to your entire body.  The Vichy Shower (5 shower heads over the top of the table) is then turned on and rinses you off.  The shower itself is a wonderful treat as the warm water cascades over your body massaging it.  If it is a scrub and wrap you desire, the wrap comes next.  Depending on your desired outcome (weightloss, detoxification, toning of the skin, hydration) the wrap material is applied in light massage strokes.  You are then wrapped in plastic and large bath blankets.  During the wrap you receive a scalp and foot massage.  The foot massage incorporates reflexology points targeting detoxification, elimination and organ stimulation.  Depending on the wrap you are then rinsed using the shower again, hot towels, or the hydrating one is left on.  The final step is to have a gel, oil or rich cream applied for hydration.  You leave feeling smooth, refreshed and hydrated.  So when you are thinking of Spring Cleaning this year, think about giving yourself and your skin the same new beginning!
